Increasingly, public debate has focused on job-related topics such as economic trends, workplace conditions, personal development and health. Europeanization and globalization are more than just catchphrases; their impact can be felt in companies every day.

Today's workplace offers employees a variety of experiences, both positive and negative: workers have been given more individual responsibility and opportunities for self- and co-determination, but they must also work at an ever-faster pace while facing greater job insecurity and stress. For many employees today, their job gives their lives a sense of meaning and has helped them grow personally; at the same time, it still fulfils a more fundamental role by allowing them to "make a living."
