In awarding the 2007 Carl Bertelsmann Prize, the Bertelsmann Stiftung is identifying those international best practices that can serve as examples for implementing the necessary structural and socioeconomic conditions for promoting civic engagement among Germany's young people.

The Search Committee supports and directs the international background research for the Carl Bertelsmann Prize. It prepares a short-list for the jury, which then chooses the final winner. The jury is made up of members of the Bertelsmann Stiftung Board of Trustees.

Young people in particular need diverse opportunities in order to enrich their experience, to learn about civic responsibility and to strengthen their communities.
