The Bertelsmann Foundation has announced that the Toronto District School Board has won this year's Carl Bertelsmann Prize of €150,000 for its exemplary work in promoting social integration and improving equal learning opportunities at its schools. "Fairness for all"
Together with the country's nonprofit foundations, Germany's Minister for Integration Maria Böhmer launched a national network of "educational sponsors" on May 19, 2008. The network is designed to support existing mentoring programs for disadvantaged children with an immigrant background and increase awareness of the concept of educational sponsors. The Bertelsmann Stiftung has joined the initiative as part of the activities surrounding the 2008 Carl Bertelsmann Prize. "I'm very pleased that the Bertelsmann Stiftung is supporting the national network of educational sponsors and contributing its expertise," Böhmer said.
